The weather cleared just in time to allow over 1,200 runners and
volunteers to participate and enjoy our 10th Anniversary
event. New records were set in several areas. First, we
broke our registration record, set in 2010, with just under 1,300
registered runners. And, new records were established for the
5K male overall & masters, 10K male & female masters.
Forty three year old Eric Stabb of Athens, GA broke the 5K
overall male record with a time of 15:47. The previous record
(16:08) was set last year by sixteen year old Ryan Doyle of Roswell.
Michael Strickland (44) of Marietta set a new 5K master record of
15:59 and was 3rd overall. The previous record (17:46) was set
in 2002 by Robert Feldman. |

Not to be outdone, Brad Slavens (42) of Atlanta returned to defend
his '10 master win by breaking his old record of 37:33 to win the
10K masters with a time of 36:34. Slavens has held the record
since '09. He was 2nd overall.
And completing a master's sweep, Christina Evans (43) of Canton,
GA broke the 10K master record with a time of 42:11. The
previous record (43:52) was set by Kim Wheeler in '08.
Finally, an update on eighty one year old Clarence Hartley of
Young Harris. He broke the Georgia 10K age group record (by
over 30 minutes) last year at our event, but that wasn't enough for
him. He qualified and completed the 2011 Boston
Marathon. His time -- an outstanding 4:11. He was the
oldest registered runner. |
